Wines I tasted last week

Wow! I've been tasting some really delicious wines this week. It hasn't escaped me that 4 out of 6 of them are Italian. I've been on a bit of a roll lately.

Shared a bottle of LAMBRUSCO REGGIANO FRIZZANTE - MEDICI ERMETE CONCERTO 2015 with friends last weekend. Super fresh and quaffable. A fun addition to a party with its frothy bubbles and it pairs well with a variety of zesty dishes. It’s available at BCL stores. http://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/571968

Went to the IVSA tasting and was really impressed by the BARBERA D'ALBA - GD.VAJRA 2013 brought in by Altus Wines http://altuswines.ca/. It’s also available at BCL stores http://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/278630

Had dinner at AnnaLena http://www.annalena.ca/ on Thursday night. My friend had enjoyed the DONATELLA CINELLI COLOMBINI LEONE ROSSO ORCIA DOC 2011 there before. We decided this Sangiovese/Merlot blend was going to pair well with our dinner. It did! You can find more info on this wine here. [LEONE ROSSO ORCIA DOC 2011]

I hosted a dinner party last night and we polished off the other three wines. We were starting the night with some smoked salmon and I’d been saving a bottle of the ALTA Alella Laietà Rosé 2010 for a special occasion. Friday seemed special enough but then my friend showed up with her finished biography in a binder! I can’t say more than that but she certainly enjoyed the fresh fruitinness that this Cava was still offering. http://www.altaalella.cat/en/aa-laieta-rose/. Next up was the ALAIN GUENEAU SANCERRE 2015 that my friend brought. I’d tried to recreate the salad I’d had at AnnaLena the night before. I made a light blue cheese dressing for the mix of radicchio, arugula, toasted walnuts and beets. The crab-apple acidity of the worked out nicely and it stood up to the flavours of the salad. More info on the wine here https://www.sancerre-gueneau.com/en/vins/sancerre-rose.html. I also made a mushroom, barley risotto and knew the bottle of Brunello di Montalcino Il Marroneto 2009 was going to be amazing with it. More info here http://www.ilmarroneto.com/en/brunello-di-montalcino-il-marroneto/.

If you have a chance to drink any of these wines I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Cheers!
